St Peter's CE School in Alvescot held an art gallery in the summer term in St Peter's Church based around Saint Peter. Each class focused on a different theme associated with St Peters, with the youngest pupils exploring keys, the Year 1 and 2 children looking at images of St Peter in stained glass windows or historical artwork, the 3 and 4 children looked at the role of Peter as a fisherman and fisher of men. Finally, Y5 and 6 explored the idea of Peter being a foundation/rock and the biblical concept from Matthew 16:18, where Jesus says, "You are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church," The rector Rev 'd Harry MacInnes led Collectie Worship exploring the life of Saint Peter then the children used sponge printing, collage, acrylic pens and pencil/watercolour paint to create art based on their learning.
Artwork was then displayed in Church and the community were invited to view it over a week within Artsweek 2025. We had great feedback including: ' how lovely it was having the church open this morning and seeing all the wonderful artwork! The sun shining through the stain glass window at the altar added to the atmosphere!'
Some of the artwork is now displayed permanently in St Peter's School quiet garden to provide a space for reflection, prayer/spiritual connection. More information and pictures here: St Peter's CE Primary School - Latest News/ Galleries
